Peter Jenkins

Ever since a disillusioned young man set out to find himself on October 15, 1973, by walking across America, millions of readers worldwide have been captivated by the travel books of Peter Jenkins (shown here with his dog, Cooper).  As a long-time fan of his works, I invited Peter to MWC in 2002 to share some of his stories, collected during his twenty years of traveling.  On September 7, the “Town & County” magazine of the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star published my article on him, illustrated with his photographs (which included a stunning cover shot of a bald eagle during an Alaskan snowstorm).  Two days later, Peter inaugurated the fall Fredericksburg Forum series at Mary Washington, during which he electrified the packed auditorium with his exuberance and sheer presence.
